An interesting report. In the UK, the British government, in association with ADS, has created the Security in Complex Environments Group (SCEG), which is working to create accreditation for UK security companies. This will hopefully come in to force this year and allow shipping companies to make decisions based on legitimately vetted, accredited maritime security providers.

FYI, piracy trials have taken place in Europe, notably in the Netherlands, Germany and France in 2011 and are well documented online.
