		<description>It will be interesting to see where this goes.  I view a similar problem in Australia.  The difference here is that we have a booming offshore sector, with the crews just negotiating a 30% payrise over 3 years, plus constuction money for those applicable vessels.

Meanwhile the 35 blue water ships are trying to source staff from the same pool and having trouble.  Not easy to wonder why when you can earn around 30 to 50 % more on the offshore vessels.

We have reserved the ferry operators between Victoria and Tasmania for local crew, but the other domestic shipping is being done less and less by Australian manned ships.

We now have a problem with providing enough pilots and Harbour Masters, with some ports resorting to importing these positions.
